PLAYERS' AWARDS NIGHT 2023/24 - ALL THE WINNERS

24 April 2024

MAX Crocombe was the overwhelming choice of Brewers fans as their Burton Albion Player of the Season.

The New Zealand international goalkeeper received nearly 50 per cent of all the votes cast for the annual award.

He said: "I realised when I came in it was a big step so I knuckled down and waited for an opportunity. I take a lot of pride from staying in the team with such a quality goalkeeper behind me like Jamal (Blackman).

"It has been a difficult year but nothing gets given to you and we have leaders in the team and worked hard for everything."

Charlotte Jarvis, who has enjoyed another excellent campaign helping her team make significant improvements, was named Women's Player of the Season.

She said: "There is a growing interest in the media and the more that's invested in the game the more we can achieve and there are chances to make a career in the game now."

Chairman Ben Robinson was welcomed onto the stage by host Mark Clemmit and was interviewed about his 50 year association with the football club.

The Chairman also thanked Dr Mark Young, club doctor, and Amy Goodwin, hospitality supervisor who are both leaving the club.

There were also special thanks and gifts for David and Alyson Hewlett of long term front of shirt sponsors Prestec in recognition of their support.

The Service and Support Award went to Roy Burton, former Premier League Assistant referee for his ten years' as a volunteer supervisor of the match officials on matchdays.

The award for Player in the Community went to Deji Oshilja, who also scooped the PFA Community Award.

He said: "A lot of great people do good work at the football club and it's important for the players to be a part of that."

The club's all-time leading goal scorer Richie Barker, a key player in the 1960s, was inducted into the Hall of Fame with his daughter Louise Thompson collecting the award on behalf of the late Brewers legend.

After notching up 600 professional starts in all competitions and 400 for the Brewers John Brayford was given a Special Achievement Award.

The Albion skipper said: "This was were I came when I left school and the club has a special meaning to me. I'm enjoying it as much now as when I started at 17.

"I have the honour of being the captain of this football club and working with the gaffer on what he wants to achieve. It's an honour to come to work here every day."

Joe Powell's brilliant goal against Bristol Rovers was voted the best of the season by guests at the awards night.

Ryan Sweeney was voted the Players' Player of the Season.
