PATERSON SAYS BREWERS ARE CAPABLE OF WINNING LAST TWO GAMES

18 April 2024

MARTIN Paterson says the Brewers are capable of winning the two remaining fixtures and securing League One safety.

Albion are at home to Reading on Saturday (kick off 3pm) and then finish away at Fleetwood Town on April 27 (kick off 12.30pm).

After losing at home to relegation rivals Cheltenham on Tuesday, The Brewers are two points above the bottom four.

But the manager believes that if the team can turn good spells of play into a whole they can beat both Reading and Fleetwood.

He said: “If we are going to get that complete performance, let’s do it now against Reading. We have some tired bodies but that doesn’t matter we have to go out there with the impetus to win.

“I still believe in the players. I understand everyone’s frustrations, never mind mine, but you don’t get the results required by falling into the wrong emotions. You have to be positive and ready to fight. That’s what we have to do and then the confidence and quality will come.

“We need a good start and from that we need to build and grow through the game. We have done it before, and we can do it again.

“My message to them is clear. At times you have to tell them the brutal truth and that A, B and C aren’t good enough but ultimately now beating them with a stick won’t work. We have to keep that belief and tell them that if we piece it together, we are more than capable of winning these two games.”

The manager will have to juggle injury worries and tiredness after two games this week ahead of Reading.

He said: “There will be lots of fitness tests I will be honest. There are also people who have played really hard for two games and energy levels are depleted and that’s something we have to think of going into the weekend.

“Regardless of who we put on that field, it will be a play to win mentality and that’s the positivity I’m giving the group.”
